fuel economy????
May 1 2007, 7:35 AM EDT
I read an article in usa today dated 4/27/2008 that the fuel mileage was bad on the 08 f-350. I presantly own a 03f-350 with a 5.4 gas engine with auto tran. This is the first diesel truck and now I'm worried that this truck will cost me a lot more to operate!!! 4  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just go my F-350 King Ranch. $65,000 truck here is Canada.

I have 900km on it, and it is going back. I dont care how much of a loss they hit me with...it is a complete travesty that Ford have allowed a vehicle (especially a diesel) to leave their factory getting a little over 8Miles to the Gallon. My 440-six pack gets around 13Miles to the Gallon.

Please, if you are considering buying this truck I highly advise you to think again, unless you dont care about the fuel economy (of course I love the interior, the look...etc)

Someone needs to be hung over this. Throw a hull underneath it and it would still be bad even by boat standards.

What p's me off even more is that I spent thousands upgrading tires, rino-lining the box, torno cover.....and now it is going back!

completely disappointed. My 2003 had twice as good mileage.

Another complete bunch of B.S is all those car web-sites that are obviously being paid off by big vehicle companies...how did NONE of them pick up on this.

Dont let this one go to rest guys...if you own this truck, go ballsitic at whomever sold it to you...it is Fords mistake, now they have to pay for it.

start making noise..get posting. Aside from the obvious money issues (diesle is over $4 USD a Gallon in canada)I dont feel like stopping for fuel every 200 Miles on a road trip...screw that.

I have read tonnes of similar postiongs, yet they are mainly on obscure forums...tim to get this out there

I also have towed the camper only and got 7.1 per computer

Hi
I am trying to get to the bottom of this fuel economy thing on the 2008 F350. I am considering ordering one, and none of the dealerships can tell me what to expect for fuel economy. Is it really that bad? I read an article on a review of the truck and they said that the demo they were using got 6.2 with full load. I can't live with a vehicle that gets that!

I've got no reason to make false claims of the fuel guzzling habits of the 2008 F350 that I was recently issued by my company. I was issued a 2008 F350 6.4 Turbo Diesel 4x4 SRW LWB by the Electric Utility Co that I work for. I have driven it about 1K miles. I have driven mostly highway miles during these few weeks. I drive around 75-78 MPH with the traffic. I am getting a consistant 10.2 to 10.4 MPG. I have not been towing trailer loads, just carrying about 2000 pounds of cargo & equipment in the ARE cab height camper shell. I am not impressed with mileage, but like the truck, mostly because I am not buying the fuel. I personally own a 2006 GMC 3500 LWB 4x4 SRW with Duramax / Allison with same ARE topper & 100 gallon transfer tank. I have about 14 K miles on it now & get a consistant 15-16 MPG around town. I get about 17-18 on the highway as long as I lkeep it around 70. At about 75 & above it drops to about 14-15. It pulls my 12,000 pound 5 wheel at 80 but you pay at the pump at about 9 MPG. I normally pull at about 70 and get about 11-12 MPG. No mods to power train or computer.

I have an 08 F350. I have about 5500 miles on it now. I have been getting around 10 mpg hiway but I took my 26 ft box trailer empty for repair about 100 miles and got 7.4 mpg. My truck has 4.30 rear and is turning about 2100 rpm at 70 mph. Am looking at changing dif to 3.73 to get to about 1785 rpm at 70 mph. If I drop back to that rpm now my mileage goes to around 14 mpg. I think the 3.73 will get about 16 mpg hiway without load. At least I hope it does. 7  out of 9 found this valuable. Do you?

I bought a 2008 F-350 , nice truck , fuel economy sucks. I pull a 14000lb. 40ft. Horse trailer . In the hills of tenn. I was getting 7mpg at 80 and 8mpg at 60 this is somewhat acceptable. empty , in florida on flat ground or down hill, I get 9.5mpg this is unacceptable. ford told me you don't buy a truck like this for milage. I agree to a point, but this is rediculous.

what did you expect? if they up the horse power, stuck another turbo on it. Come on, open your eyes. Did you really think it would get better fuel mileage. I love my 07 F350 dually 4x4 , single turbo 14mpg
and towing my 5th wheel it gets 10 mpg.. IT sure beats 5mpg that I was getting out of my V10 trident.

Hello,

I purchased a 2008 F 250 Super duty Supercab 2 X 4 short bed. I wondered about the fuel economy as well. Here is what I am getting after 1200 mi.

13.5 to 15 MPG in town and got 17 on the highway. Have not pulled boat yet with it but hoping that it will not go down to much as boat only is 4,000 lbs. I don't know the rear end ratio but I think it is 3.73.

I traded in a 2002 Trooper with V-6 that did not get any better gas mileage so I am pretty happy so far for the size and power of the truck.

I am at 1500 on my 08 250 and get 10-11 in town and 13-15 on hwy.. my 05 got 15 in town and 19 on hwy at this point... Ford should just come clean on this one. The Diesel tech at my dealer said everyone brings them back thinking there is a computer issue and it's just what they get. He said the smog crap killed the MPG. He has a buddy that works on Chevy's and said their smog crap only robber 3 mpg where Ford's seem to have robber 5-6 MPG :( 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

We just bought a 2008 F350 King Ranch under tow we were getting 12.2 now it has dropped to 5.3 and ford reps are being called in. We were to earn a living with this truck but after 1 full week thing we should have went Dodge. Going Broke 3  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm not a Dodge Lover I own 3 Fords and my family is also Ford folks but the 2008 King Ranch is not performing like we were led to believe so before you call me names know your facts. Ford needs to find a solution to this problem to keep hard working people from going broke. I drove a Freightliner with a detroit with got better fuel mileadge than this. 5  out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

But I'm interested if others who purchased the 2008 F350 Ranch 4x4 with tow/haul package are having towing problems at at 45 to 55 MPH with tow/haul engaged? At these speeds I experience violent jerking or surging motion, I also have this power loss problems when going up hills and it doesn't have to be a mountain. I pull about an 8,000 pound 5th wheel. When I bought the truck I thought it would have all the power I needed for the job. I have had the truck to our local Ford, and Linclon Mercury Service department and they hook it up to a computer and tell me there is nothing wrong with the truck. They need to go on vacation with me and they would change there opinion. I have less than 12,0000 miles on this vehicle.

I'll add my name to this groing list....I had an '08 f350 that was a beautiful truck to look at. Even nicer to ride in...so long as you weren't footing the bill for fuel.I took it back with 3500 km on it and at the time was only getting 5 miles to the gallon pulling a 7500 lb. trailer. I could even have stomached some of the poor fuel mileage if the truck had tons more power, but my '04 would have left this thing in the dust on the hills. Get it together Ford!! Emissions standards are a joke if you're burning over twice the fuel to get the same job done! 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

I bought an 08 f-350 SC SB 4X4 in Aug. of 07. The milage keeps getting WORSE!! My last tank, of empty city driving, came in at 7.8 MPG! That SUCKS!! It's totyally unacceptable. I also have a gobble in the front and rear suspension with only about 11,000 miles on the truck. I'd like to give the piece of crap back to Ford. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
