Watch
Are there any other fans out there becoming bored and irritated watching your favorite team play the same teams all season. I like having inter-divisional rivalries but it is boring to watch the Canuck's and Oilers 8 times a season. They are great teams and generally good games but seriously what kind of accurate display of NHL supremacy are we as fans experiencing when they don't play every team. I understand it is painstaking on long road trips across the continent with time changes and so on, but in the west our teams change time zones 8 times in the season vs the 3 out east. I understand there are significant costs in travel but i also know how much revenues have increased in the teams budgets with the new marketing since the lockout. The reality is that teams are doing well financially and while Gary Bettman wants to continue to talk about increasing the salary cap to the teams, to which the teams have all replied that the increase is affordable. I think is a counter productive step into repeating history. Players will begin to want more and more money again as the new projected cap will increase by 1.5mil , this mentality is what dragged the duration of the lockout for so long. Since the lockout revenues, season ticket prices, and so on have been record highs in many cities which in so many ways revitalized the game we all love. But please put the 1.5 mil prospect away from salaries and place it in the travel fund and lets play some new teams, seeing pittsburgh in calgary every 3 years is a joke, it was a big deal this year to see alex the great in calgary. It wont happen again till 2009 with the current scheduling, but we will see the canucks, avs, oil, and wild at leat 18 times each in the meantime. Dont bore the fans with the same games night after night, if anything the rivalries aren't as exciting as they were simply because of the frequency. So please, everyone who misses the old scheduling but loves the new NHL speak up.
